What’s the difference between a psychic and a medium?
The terms psychic and medium are often used by society somewhat interchangeably to describe people who are intuitive and who use divination practices or communications with spirit, angels and guides. However, there are clear differences between these two terms.
Psychics ~ A psychic works at an instinctive or an intuitive level to gather information hidden from the normal senses via a "sixth sense" or extrasensory perception.
Mediums ~ A medium has the ability to connect with the people who have passed away. They become a channel, or essentially a telephone line
between earth and the after life to pass along messages. A medium may by psychic, but a psychic may not be a medium.
Clairvoyance ~ Some mediums or psychics also claim to be clairvoyant, meaning they can "see" the spirits of the dead, or see past, present or future events. Clairvoyance is the ability to see with the third eye or the mind. Although I don't always see the whole picture, I am usually able to get enough information to help you understand the information about the event that may help you to know when, where or why it is happening.
Clairaudience ~ Clairaudience is the ability to 'hear'. It is a form of communication that is produced by energy vibrations, and is typically not heard by the human ear, but by a point in the brain, thus making it one of the more difficult skills to obtain. Someone who is clairaudient will hear voices or sounds that most other people will not hear. This is the strongest of my gifts, as I have had the ability to develop it from a very early age.
Clairsentience ~ Clairsentience is the ability to 'Feel'. Someone who is clairsentient gets a feeling about an event or a person usually from the vibration of that person’s energy. Many people already have this skill. You get a feeling about someone you have just met, like you've known them all your life, or like you know you just can't trust them, that is clairsentience.
Foretelling the Future or Future Forecast ~ A psychic may be able to foretell the future in many areas--love, money, career, or travel--by using a variety of tools or spiritual channels.
Who does Alva connect to receive the information?
Channelling - Alva's main form of connection is via channelling. She connects to spirit guides and acts as a direct medium to the client via channeling. Through this method clients receive direct and uninterrupted flow of information. What's important to you as a client is to recognize Alva is channeling and asking questions both during and after the channeling. Your questions will dive deeper into how and who she is connecting with to help substantiate and validate your reading.
Spirit Guides - We all have at least 3 spirit guides around us at all times. Before we are born, while in heaven (or the universe), we would ask a friend to come and support us on our next journey. We pick that friend specifically because they have some knowledge, information or expertise on at least one of the lessons we’ve chosen to learn while living through this life. Spirit guides are with us from the time of birth until the time of death, rotating in and out depending on the lessons we are currently working on. Most people have had a run in with their spirit guides, and just don’t recognize it. We call it intuition, gut feeling or it’s the moment where the hairs on your body stand on end. When this happens, it is your guides trying to get your attention. The more you listen to them, the more you’ll be on your life path.
People who have Passed Away - Family, Friends and loved ones who have passed come often to visit us. They usually show up in physical form. Alva describes them to the best of her ability. When a line of communication is made, she is given how the person passed away, personality traits the person is known for, and sometimes a shared memory between the two of you. Spirits rarely come through with a formal greeting like 'Hi, I'm Joe, David's Dad', so please be prepared to play detective to find out who has joined us in your reading. Depending on where the spirit is (the other side or in limbo), the form of communication can be through voice contact or more through symbols. If you do not immediately recognize the spirit that has come forward to visit, please don’t dismiss it right away. Unfortunately, more often than not I receive a phone call or an email 2 or 3 days later from a client who now recognizes the person that came to visit, and wants to know what they wanted to say. Also, if there is someone you want to hear from, my suggestion is you start thinking about them a few days before the reading.
What to expect from a reading?
When you sit down with me, I connect with Angels, Spirit Guides and Loved Ones who have passed away and ask them to share with me the information you need to help you move forward. Many times I simply confirm what people already know about their relationships, career and loved ones. Often the information I give is very down to earth, and most clients have come to that conclusion before it is suggested. Sometimes my work is simply to give someone closure when they have lost a loved one. A reading can help give you insights into other people, enabling you to better handle your personal and professional relationships. A Medium or Psychic can process information in such a way that may let you see a problem in a new light, offering a totally new, creative solution.
How do I prepare for a visit?
The first thing to realize is that the responsibility for a successful visit rests as much with you as with the Medium or Psychic that you have chosen. Keep an open mind and open yourself up to whatever happens. If you hear something that doesn’t make sense to you file it way for later review. Having a general idea of what you'd like more information on is usually helpful, and it’s the first thing I ask when someone sits with me. If you are looking to connect with someone who has passed away, start thinking of them a few days before your appointment. I work with my guides to bring loved ones forward, but just as in life, they can choose not to come. Please remember, if you are looking to contact someone in particular, it is up to that spirit to come forward for your reading, all we can do is invite them.
How do I use the information?
What you do with the information is clearly a very personal thing, and it will probably involve more than one aspect of your life. Very often, simply getting an objective view on a situation will assist you to make more informed choices. Personal power doesn’t come from trying to change reality but rather learning how to accept it. The degree to which we perceive the world depends upon the way in which we experience it. When we react to a situation, we put ourselves in a position of opposition to it and often do so before we have even realized what it is we are reacting to. A response, on the other hand, comes from a position of power – We respond to a situation after we consider precisely what the appropriate response should be.
Time (Spirit World vs Earth)
Time in the spirit world is not like that here on earth. Information that comes from spirit may contain a direction of time for events here on earth. It’s important to note that this is one of the more difficult pieces of information for a medium to convey. Sometimes a number may come forward such as “5” in reference to time. Five can be interpreted for days or weeks. It’s important to recognize and understand this. Additionally, time can also be influenced by you the client. After you’ve received this knowledge from a medium you may choose to alter your life path post reading. Please keep this in mind if your reading has future based predictions that have a time dependency.
Knowledge is power
When a medium sits down with a client for a reading and future based knowledge is presented that knowledge is based on your current course of actions and is subject to change by you taking that knowledge and altering your life path. For example if during your reading it was identified that you were likely to be in a car accident in the near future your natural instincts may make you more alert and cautious while driving and thus alter the likelihood of that accident from happening. You are in control of your life and capable of retaining or altering your life path.
Are sessions recorded?
Alva does not record sessions, but you as the client are more than welcome to record on your own behalf. You may also wish to bring a notepad and pen to take notes during your session.
Can I bring my child to the reading?
We do ask that you find alternative arrangements for childcare at the time of your reading. One of the strongest measures for success in a reading is uninterrupted and dedicated focus, both by the client and by the medium. Additionally it's unknown who will come forward and what information will be shared. Alva's policy is to share that information regardless of its content and in some cases it may not be appropriate with a minor around.
How soon can I do a re-visit?
Typically Alva recommends 6-12 months before a re-visit to ensure enough time has elapsed for growth and change to develop since your last reading. In some cases Alva will permit re-visits in less than 6 months if a client has had substantial change take place in their lives. It is up to the client, but Alva does provide these recommendations to ensure people get qualitative and informative readings.
Can Alva read everyone?
It’s important to note that a medium is almost like a telephone line to the other side. They have no control as to who comes forward, what is said or how it’s said. They literally are just a communication channel. With that in mind it’s not reasonable for one to say they can guarantee a reading for the following reasons:
#1 A medium has no control over who comes forward. There’s as much free will on the other side as there is here and a medium cannot force specific people to come forward. This is important to note for anyone seeking a medium and Alva communicates this in her FAQs and recommends people read/understand these before having a reading with her to set expectations.
#2 In some cases the person who’s crossed over is in “limbo” and is half way between here and the other side. In cases like this the spirit is not concerned with communicating for your benefit, but rather trying to find their way to get where they need to be, or simply are not able to
communicate.
#3 Lastly in some cases the ownership is on the person being read and how “open” they are. Occasionally people feel obligated to see a medium, but due to personal beliefs don’t feel it’s going to work. This creates a “block” for the medium often making it extremely difficult or impossible to read for the person. Consider it like trying to accurately communicate through a bad connection.
Can I become a psychic or medium?
Everyone possesses some ability. You can take educational courses to increase your awareness & better develop your skills. Many people experience minor incidences that seem to involve psychic abilities i.e.: Knowing when someone was about to call you on the telephone.
Cancellation Policy
We request a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for cancellation or reschedules. Reschedules requested with less than 48 hours of an appointment (or missing an appointment) may be rescheduled at Alva’s discretion, however, pre-payment will be required 2 weeks prior to the revised appointment date. Alva reserves the right to not permit a rescheduling at her discretion.
